FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01. How do you make your tunes?
I record everything with a really cheap computer mic. I have a really cheap black Fender ripoff $50 guitar (with an "I LOVE MILK" and a +killthemanbecomethemonster+ sticker on it... I used to have a Big Black sticker, but it got peeled away) and an amazing distortion amp which was made by Fender that I got sixth-hand for about $20. I have a lot of keyboards (a few Casio keyboards, mostly cheap toy keyboards) including one that I use a LOT that I just found a few months ago after it being missing in my house for about 11 years. It's my "Scissor Shock Keyboard", as there is NO label of any company who made it.. just a big Scissor Shock sticker. Neat, eh? Other than that, I just sample shit. Don't even BOTHER asking me what programs I use; I've used them all. Sound Recorder is my best friend, as is... hell... Hammerhead, Fruity Loops, Cakewalk, Tuareg, Cool Edit Pro, everything you can think of. There's no big secret to it... I just put together songs that I think are interesting.

02. What does the name mean?
It's slang for "bad haircut".

03. What music influences you?
My inspirations..uh... there are way too many to list. I'm still being inspired by what people do in the confines of their bedroom: Kindergarten Hazing Ritual and Athenian Mercury do some amazing shit. As far as what GOT me into making music, it was Babyland... Babyland, Melt Banana, Dillinger Escape Plan is initially what I wanted to fuse with my first band, Stagedive Suicide. Yeah, but... what really inspired Scissor Shock was probably not what you're thinking. I hadn't even heard Venetian Snares or whoever when I'd first made this shit. I just wanted to record complex mathy songs, and I guess I was into Shellac, Big Black, and stuff like that back then (and still am), as well as Six Finger Satellite and my all-time favorite Brainiac. I guess my goal through all this is to be the Brainiac of "e-grind" or whatever genre I get lumped in. Woot! Some other artists I really enjoy and who inspire me: Wire (the first 3 albums), Mr. Bungle, Vicious Hary Mary, Polysics, and the Jesus Lizard.

04. Will you ever play live?
We have played live a few times and it always ends in destruction.

05. Can I do a split with you?
Yes.

06. Will you be on my compilation?
Yes, absolutely. I will appear on any compilation album ever. If you're putting one out, go ahead and put me on it. But please drop me an email to tell me, so I can put it on here.

07. Are there lyrics?
Yep, almost every song has lyrics. They're in a broken-poetic form to the point where they are usually indecipherable. The bulk of the lyrics are about the world ending and holding us down and strange conspiracy-theory whatever. Or they are about hating females. I'm not going to send you the lyrics, because I want people to draw their own conclusions. Like with everything I do, I don't want to spell out the meaning. It's not that my music is too complex that only "smart" people will understand it; I just think that everything in life is more fun if you just take it as it is.

08. Are there any music videos for Scissor Shock songs?
Yes, my friends over at http://www.phuked.cjb.net/ made a video for waterbeds are boring/x-ray gun... Not too sure yet where you can get this video from except off of my computer. My soulseek name is BaD-CooL, or I could upload it somewhere for you. It's about 25mb. It's a great video...

09. Do you sample?
Yes, I sample, but I also play lots of shit too. Hmm.

10. Why do all your albums sound so different?
Why do most bands' albums sound the same?
